Welcome to Once Upon A Story!

This site is designed to assist students in learning to read while being exposed to interesting original children's stories. How the site helps your students learn to read: The pedagogy of the learning process employed by the site is not complex. As the story is read aloud to the student, he or she views the large, colorful, animated words being spoken. The student is encouraged to associate the sounds with the symbols that represent them. Then student then watches the animated action of the story to facilitate his or her understanding of the words as they are spoken again. Lastly, a standard text version of the story appears along the bottom of the screen as a subtle reinforcement of the spoken language. The goal is for the student to learn to associate the sounds with the symbols while having fun enjoying the story. An electronic book: As when reading a physical book, the student controls the turning of the pages. In this way, the student may progress as rapidly or as slowly through the story as he or she desires. Once again, as with a printed book, the student may flip back to a previous page or pages whenever he or she wants a reminder about what happens in the story. Preview the material: We urge you to preview the story for yourself. Every effort has been made to ensure that our stories promote positive images of human interactions and do not contain references or materials that might be offensive to anyone in any way. However, only you can judge the appropriateness of the material for your students. Contact Us: We further urge you to contact us, by completing the enclosed questionnaire, or by e-mailing your comments, positive and negative. We are particularly interested in any difficulties your students might experience in using and/or enjoying the site. As teachers, we know that if one student experiences a difficulty, then other students will have similar, if not identical issues with the process. Please let us know what you think about our site and whether or not the site has been helpful for your students' learning process.
