Welcome to Once Upon A Story!

This site is designed to assist children in learning to read while being exposed to interesting original children's stories. How the site helps your child learn to read: The learning process employed by the site is simple. As the story is read aloud to the child, he or she views the large, colorful, animated words as they are being spoken. The child is encouraged to associate the sounds with the symbols that represent them. Then child then watches the animated action of the story to facilitate his or her understanding of the words as they are spoken again. Lastly, a standard text version of the story appears along the bottom of the screen as a subtle reinforcement of the spoken language. The goal is for the child to learn to associate the sounds with the symbols while enjoying the story. An electronic book: Just like reading a physical book, the children control the turning of the pages. In this way, the children may progress as rapidly or as slowly through the story as they desire. The children may flip back to a previous page or pages whenever they` want a reminder about what happens in the story. Preview the material: We urge you to preview the stories for yourself. Every effort has been made to ensure that our content promotes positive images of human interactions and does not contain references or materials that might be offensive to anyone in any way. However, only you can judge the appropriateness of the material for your own children. Contact Us: Feel free to contact us by e-mailing your comments, positive and negative. We are particularly interested in any difficulties your child might experience in enjoying the site. As teachers, we know that if one child experiences a problem, then other children may have similar issues with the process. Please let us know what you think about our site and whether or not the site has been helpful for your children's learning process.
